Your landing page is your website visitor’s first point of contact with you.
Its goal is to guide your visitor to a single desired action, which might be to:
- Click through to an order page to buy something (a product or service)
- Fill out a consultation form or call a phone number
- Volunteer their contact information so they become a lead for your business
In the “good old days” of internet marketing, you’d run ads and direct cold traffic to your “squeeze page,” where you’d immediately ask for their contact information in exchange for something of value – usually a “free report” or series of emails.
But that’s not the best way to turn cold traffic into leads when you use using social media to drive traffic to your website.
Why?
It’s a little bit like dating.
How would you feel if a stranger at the grocery store or local coffee shop walked up and asked you point blank for your name and phone number — without bothering with an introduction or conversation to establish any relationship with you?
If you’re like most people, you’d find that abrupt. Insensitive. Just plain rude.
You’d wonder, “Shouldn’t we get to know each other first?”
Since you’re aiming at generating traffic from social media, primarily Facebook, you want to respect people’s purpose for being there.
People are on social media to socialize. To connect and engage with other people.
Not to buy stuff.
So your landing page should offer your visitors a chance to get to know you first – before you ask for anything in return.
That’s why you want to “lead with value.” When you deliver high-value, relevant content to your ideal target prospect up front – before you ask for anything – it helps you connect. It allows people to get to know you. And when they feel they know you, they’re more likely to trust you.
And when they trust you, they’re more likely to want to do business with you.
That’s why you’re going to use your blog itself as your landing page and engineer it to maximize your lead generating opportunities by letting people get to know you.
The first thing we need to do is to understand the layout for a perfect landing page.
