- Choose your broadcast location.
Make sure there’s nothing going on in the background that could distract your viewers – noisy lawnmowers, traffic, glare from windows, cooking noises from the kitchen – you get the idea.
- Set up your computer, camera, or cell phone to focus on you.
If you have a tripod, great. It can help position your cell phone or other device at face level for you.
If you’re using a desktop, elevate it so the camera “eye” is level with your eyes, to avoid distorting your face.
- Put your script in a place that you can see it without having to look up and down to follow it.
- Check the lighting and background to make sure your viewers can see your face clearly. It’s better to be lit from the front (behind your device) than from the back (behind you).
- Check your appearance to make sure your visitors will see you the way you want them to. (Hair, clothes, makeup, and so on.)
- For purposes of the dress rehearsal, set your computer, camera, or cell phone to “record video.”
- Now run through your entire script, end the recording, and review it.
- You might need to run through the dress rehearsal a couple of times to make sure everything is as good as you can make it.
When you’re happy with your dress rehearsal, it’s show time!
